Working and fishing!

Tuesday 2.8.2011

Today has been a day of hard work. In the morning our group was divided in two teams. The other half stayed in the town at the Emmaus centre and the other half went to Godby village where there is another, new Emmaus shop. Since the trip to Godby is quite long, the latter group went by car.

The ones who stayed in Mariehamn learned to sort and pack the clothes that will be later sent to different destinations, for example to the kindergarten of Cuna Nazareth, Lima Peru. Pepe was great help in the sorting, because of his knowledge about the clothes needed in Lima. He and Pasi had hard time getting to know the secrets of the machines that are used to pressing textiles to tight packages, but finally with great help of Kaija and Robert, managed to solve the problem J Tuula and Peppino also worked hard sorting of textiles and Sixten was responsible carrying the heavy packages.

Meanwhile in Godby, Khrystina, Igor, Graham, Maija and Frans were working in the garden of the new Emmaus shop. In the garden there were hundreds of trees that had been cut down some days earlier. The task was to carry the trees away and cut the grass after that with a trimmer. The work was actually physically quite demanding, but also very good exercise J  Igor and Graham also built some fences. Graham also used chain saw to cut down some trees. After the hard day, everybody was tired but happy!

The lunch and dinner were today served by Annabelle and Thilde – and we think the whole group enjoyed the meals a lot! At the lunch we had couscous, vegetables gratin and salad from the day before. We had also dessert, what a nice surprise! For dinner we had salmon with rice and fruit salad as dessert. After the dinner everybody except Tuula, Maija and Pasi went fishing. First the group went to the dock to get some fish and then tried their luck from the boat. The catch was not that good but the experience was even better J Maybe tomorrow we will get some fish soup!

Thanks, Gracias, Kiitos!
